Dating is tough for everyone. And I know what you’re thinking: How can a girl give guys tips on dating? I’ve never been a guy looking for online love, but I HAVE been a girl looking for love and have first-handedly seen the profiles you guys put up there. Some of you need some help. Which is why I’m going to give you some tips on how to talk to women you meet online, how to write a profile and more. There are many reasons why guys use online dating sites, but for this post, let’s say you’re looking for a long-term partner (without being all scary and using the “M” word).

The very first thing people see when they look at dating profiles is the picture. One of the best online dating tips for men is to post an appropriate picture of how you look in everyday life. No cars, no showing off your glamor muscles, and please don’t put up a picture of you with a girl, even if she is just your sister. As for the body of the profile, make it fairly brief, but long enough to say a bit about yourself (education, hobbies, etc.), and a bit about what you’re looking for in a mate. It helps to have a bit of humor as well. Girls love a guy that doesn’t have to be serious all the time. Don’t forget to spell check!

In your initial email to that lucky lady, introduce yourself, say what you liked about her profile (not her looks), and ask a few questions. Just throwing out “Hey Princess. You’re hot. Wanna chat?” usually isn’t going to do it and kind of makes you sound skuzzy. Showing that you actually took time to read the profile will give you extra points.

The First Date Safety is a huge issue on the first date. You want to make her feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible, so meet in a very public place, and let her take her own way there and back. It’s nice if you offer to pay, and, in most cases, she’ll probably ask to half it. Ask her lots of questions, and don’t compliment her looks too much. At the beginning of the night, say she looks nice and drop it.

Online dating can be a lot of fun, and may even lead to major romance (cue wedding bells!), but you always have to play it safe. NEVER give out your home phone or address until you’ve been chatting awhile. Even then, be cautious. ALWAYS meet in a public place. TELL your friends where you’re going. A check-up phone call from them wouldn’t hurt, and he doesn’t have to be the wiser. “‘Hello? No, I’m not interested in your newest phone plan. Thanks.’ Telemarketers.”

Pick a great username for your online dating persona. Be funny or funky if you think you have got something that will catch someone’s eye or appeal to them. Stay away from the sexual innuendos or vulgarity. That isn’t appealing to a lot of people.
7. Dating Profile Content
Take some tome to write the profile or bio about yourself and the kind of person that you would really like to find. Being a little specific here is really okay because you may be seeking out your life partner here in the UK, and you want them to be a fairly close match to your wants. If you’re not really sure you have it just right, put it on a shelf for a day or so and then return to polish it up later before placing it online for the world to see. You could even have a friend look it over for you. Another thing about writing this profile, please fix typos’ and grammar. This is more important than you think and of course, you don’t want people to think you don’t care just because you may be in a hurry.
8. The Bottom Line
You want to get your profile noticed. For this reason be interesting and put some thought into it. Remember, you usually only get that one first chance to make a good impression. If you don’t make a good impression and they click on to the next profile—poof, you’re done for with that potential date. Your profile is you, “selling” your profile to others. You want them to see you, read about you and maybe even dream about you. You really want to get the other person’s attention and you do this by hard marketing YOU.
